Explore the diversity of this most expressive of grapes in a tutored tasting hosted by leading NZ wine writer and Riesling-lover, Jo Burzynska. In this multi-sensory celebration of the grape, you’ll not only get to try fine examples from around the globe, but have their differences brought out and character enhanced by some well chosen music.

This draws on Jo’s knowledge and current scientific research into the fascinating synergies between taste and sound.

Following the tasting, The Auricle will be offering an expanded range of Rieslings to enjoy that evening and over the whole weekend, accompanied by Riesling-friendly music (and platters). More information about the weekend’s activities posted here soon.

The cost of the tasting is $35. Booking essential through Jo at jo@joburzynska.com

Support from Grvdggr from Dunedin…

Grvdggr aka Brendan Jon Philip explores a laptop based improvisation using virtual instruments and live effects processing. In contrast to the highly physical guitar performances he is noted for, this new suite of work moves from this predominantly immaterial point of origin and navigates a terrain of semblances and associations into an open ended structure of sonic and narrative space with looping drones and disciplined minimalism.

He was a founded member of experimental sound and arts venue None Gallery in Dunedin. He returned to None in 2012 and continues to assist in developing projects and events through the space.  Brendan additionally plays bass guitar with Dunedin psychedelic stalwarts, Wolfskull.

Celebrate Saint Valentine’s at the Auricle with Broken City Samples… French_concession’s latest EP – ‘Euphoros’ is an account of a personal euphoric experience from a remote utopia as represented through rich vocals and beat/tunes.

Playing a blend of ambient and melodic electronica, Othersun is playing his second New Zealand show at The Auricle to showcase new material from a forthcoming release due out later this year.

Expect modern, melodic and electric sounds on the night!
