Reading Around Sound is a informal monthly reading group that endeavours to facilitate theoretical and critical engagement with contemporary sonic practices and related issues through close reading, and on going discussion and debate. It is a shared initiative between the Auricle and the Audio Foundation with monthly events in both Auckland and Christchurch.

Writing Around Sound is an arts journal that is orientated specifically towards engagement with sound and contemporary sound practice in New Zealand. As the name suggests the concept for the journals focus is not so much writing about sound (or sound practice) but writing around it. In this sense, sound (and sound practice) and the concerns and contexts that surround would be employed as a departure point to produce the textual and visual material that constitute the journal as a text.
