Marine Aubert is a photographer and digital artist who specialises in capturing expressive pictures under challenging conditions (poor light, restrained space, fast motion…) Combining an extensive background in visual arts and environmental science, Marine is particularly interested in alternative uses of spaces, objects and perspectives. Her experimental practice pushes the boundaries of traditional photography standards by applying a personal composition style that defies classic linear constraints, as well as a textural amplification through digital manipulation and printing on coarse substrates. Regularly documenting the contemporary underground NZ musical scene, Marine has been The Auricle’s official photographer for two years until its shutdown in May 2016. In this ongoing “Deep Throat” series, she uses a multiple exposure process that combines close-ups of technical setups with performers’ shots. The resulting images are layered narratives of the noise artists she depicts, intricately portrayed within a visual interpretation of their sonic context.
